WEEKLY REVIEW: Sunday 10 May, 2026

Greetings from Sydney. As you will find out below, I have been battling an awful case of jet lag.

It has filled me with brain fog, sleep deprivation, irritability, and a general lack of thought capability. I’ve written a post about what I should have done to combat it.

What happened last week?

You will get a quick flavour of my trip experiences on the way back from London by reading the piece on jet lag.

Both Qantas and Virgin Australia, launched Double Status Credits and Points promotions last week.

The rules are slightly different for each airline, and the booking dates and travel validity also vary. The two posts detail some of the fine print of both offers that you need to be aware of.

I’m hoping that my brain fog clears by next week, and the instalments on this latest trip report will start tumbling out.

I’m almost over the cold I caught on my travels. What is it with people who cough and sneeze without covering their mouths and noses?  Remember that wearing masks helps prevent the transmission of airborne diseases.

VIRGIN AUSTRALIA: Double Status Credits in ‘Pick your bonus’ promo. A longer runway than Qantas

Virgin Australia has responded to Qantas’ latest double rewards offer with its own ‘Pick Your Bonus‘ 2026 promotion, giving Velocity Frequent Flyer members the choice of double Status Credits or double Velocity Points on eligible flights.
