WEEKLY REVIEW: Sunday 26 April, 2026

I’m still in London, but will be departing soon. It’s really begun to warm up now, just in time for the London Marathon today. Not that I’m a participant. In fact, the only reason I know is because of its effects on public transport. And there seem to be a lot of people with New Balance-sponsored transparent backpacks roaming around tourist areas.

My theatre, gallery and friends visits have continued this week. Otherwise, I’ve been sitting here working and watching aircraft flying overhead to Heathrow.

What happened last week?

The Middle East conflict is bringing lots of uncertainty, including many airlines cutting flights to conserve jet fuel that is now precious. Contrastingly, Qantas and Virgin are currently having sales on domestic fares to keep that cash flowing in.

A large corporate travel agency is having a fun time working out how much it overcharged its clients in the UK, including the government. On the upside, Hawaiian Airlines joined the OneWorld alliance.

Flight paths over Sydney are in for a change once cargo flights start at Western Sydney International in July, and Qantas passengers in Brisbane now have to access the lounges before security.

Next week

London has been sparkling in this Spring weather. The streets are awash with tourists from all over. If it wasn’t for the cold, piercing wind, you could believe it was summer.

What is it with people who cough and sneeze without covering their mouths and noses? I’ve been wearing a mask to protect them because I have a cold. Feels like I shouldn’t bother. Remember that wearing masks helps prevent the transmission of airborne diseases.

Until next week . . .

By 2paxfly on 23 Apr 2026 6:00 am

This scandal has been a bit of a long saga over the last few months, but as the expected overcharging liability soared from tens to hundreds of millions of dollars, I thought it was worth providing some background and explanation of the travel agents’ scandal. QANTAS & VIRGIN AUSTRALIA: Why both airlines are having domestic sales

By 2paxfly on 21 Apr 2026 8:07 pm

Yesterday, I wrote an article about airlines cutting flights, and earlier this month, about prices increasing due to fuel costs. So, why are Australia’s two major airline groups currently running domestic sales? These sales are happening at the same time as one of the biggest cost shocks the airline industry has faced in years. As […] Read in browser »
