QANTAS: Taj hotel discounts for frequent flyers, with future status match
OneWorld executives have been busy. Qantas frequent flyers can now receive discounts at more than 630 Taj and Indian Hotels Company properties, under a new partnership linking the Oneworld airline alliance with the Taj InnerCircle–NeuPass loyalty program.
The agreement stretches beyond Taj’s grand palaces and luxury hotels to include everything from the Claridges Collection to amã Stays & Trails, Brij, Clarks, Gateway, Ginger, Tree of Life, SeleQtions and Vivanta.
For Australians holding Qantas Frequent Flyer status, the immediate benefit is discounts on rooms, dining and spa treatments. The match between airline and hotel status is promised for a later stage.

Discounts are available now
Oneworld Emerald members, including Qantas Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers, receive 15% off the best available room rate at participating hotels.
Oneworld Sapphire and Ruby members, Qantas Gold and Silver members receive 10% off.
The same percentage discount applies to eligible food and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as spa treatments. Bookings must be made through the dedicated Oneworld–Taj partnership channel.
The deal covers some genuinely memorable hotels, including the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, the floating Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur (which, from personal experience, I can say is worth it), Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, The Pierre in New York and St James’ Court in London.
There are plenty of less regal options, too. IHCL’s collection ranges from lavish former palaces to the more affordable Ginger brand, meaning the partnership is not restricted to travellers arriving by elephant and demanding a suite.

First-time guests receive five vouchers
Oneworld members booking their first stay through the partnership can also receive five vouchers offering 20% off future hotel stays and food-and-beverage experiences.
The partnership itself is currently set to run until 30 March 2028, although individual offers and benefits may carry their own booking and stay periods.
The status match is coming later
The most interesting part has not yet begun. Oneworld and IHCL say they plan to introduce reciprocal loyalty recognition between Taj InnerCircle–NeuPass and selected Oneworld member airlines.
Under the proposed arrangement:
| Existing status | Proposed match |
|---|---|
| Oneworld Emerald | Taj InnerCircle–NeuPass Gold |
| Oneworld Sapphire | Taj InnerCircle–NeuPass Silver |
| Oneworld Ruby | Taj InnerCircle–NeuPass Silver |
| Taj InnerCircle Platinum or Gold | Oneworld Sapphire |
| Taj InnerCircle Silver or Copper | Oneworld Ruby |
For a Qantas Platinum member, Taj Gold could be a worthwhile addition. Taj advertises tier benefits including room upgrades, early check-in, late checkout, member rates and enhanced NeuCoin earning, although individual benefits may vary.
The reverse match is potentially even more significant. Oneworld Sapphire normally brings business-class lounge access on eligible international Oneworld journeys, together with priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling.
But there is a rather large Maharaja-sized question in the room: Oneworld is an alliance, not an independent frequent flyer program.
The announcement says Taj members must be part of a participating Oneworld airline program and that the next stage will involve ‘select’ member airlines. It does not say which airlines will participate, when matching will open, how long matched status will last or whether Qantas Frequent Flyer will be included.
Until those details emerge, Australian travellers should not assume that Taj Gold will automatically produce Qantas Gold status.

Airline points on hotel stays are also planned
Oneworld and IHCL are also exploring the ability to earn airline points or miles on eligible hotel stays.
Again, there is no launch date, earning rate or confirmed list of participating frequent flyer programs. Qantas Points may eventually be among the currencies offered, but that has not been confirmed.
The partnership also includes some airline offers for Taj members. IHCL has flagged limited-time Cathay Pacific savings available until 30 September 2026, with further airline opportunities promised.
Oneworld courts India without an Indian airline
The OneWorld alliance has no member airline based in India. Air India belongs to Star Alliance, while IndiGo, India’s dominant domestic carrier, remains outside the three major global alliances despite building an increasingly extensive international network.
Eleven Oneworld airlines nevertheless serve 17 Indian cities, collectively operating close to 1,000 weekly flights. Qantas flies directly between Australia and India, while Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, SriLankan Airlines and other alliance members provide numerous connecting options.
There is also a delightful bit of corporate complexity. IHCL is part of India’s Tata Group, which also controls Air India. So a Tata-owned hotel company is partnering with the rival alliance to the one containing Tata’s own airline. Loyalty, much like the corporate structure of aviation, is evidently a flexible concept.

2PAXfly Takeout
For Qantas status holders, the current deal is respectable rather than revolutionary. Discounts of 10% or 15% at a broad selection of hotels, restaurants and spas, plus five first-stay vouchers, are tempting.
The promised Taj status match could be more valuable, particularly for Platinum and Platinum One members receiving Taj Gold.
However, the reverse match into Oneworld status raises more questions than it answers.
