QANTAS: Triple points offer extended

QANTAS: Triple points offer extended

I’m surprised I missed this the first time round!

If you register and book before midnight (AEST) on 31 July, you can earn triple the usual number of points on a Qantas flight. Obviously you need to be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer scheme.

The offer applies to Qantas points earn on eligible flights booked for travel between 28July 2021 and 30 June 2022. This also applies to hotel, holiday packages and Avis car hire bookings you make through Qantas

Your flight has to have a Qantas flight number – that’s one that starts with ‘QF’. Any flight booked on an airline with ‘Jetstar’ as part of its name doesn’t qualify. Some classes of fare type don’t qualify, so check the Airline Earning Table. An eligible flight for the purposes of this deal is a ‘Qantas operated Australian domestic or trans-Tasman flight with a QF flight number on your ticket where Qantas Points are normally earned’.

If you are making a booking for more than one passenger, then all of them need to be registered to qualify for the deal. You also don’t get the tripling on the status ‘bonus’ part of your points earn. You also have to make sure your frequent flyer number is recorded at the time of booking.

And finally, if you change your booking, as long as the new dates are within the dates of the deal you will still retain the triple points deal. If you rebook outside the promotion period – goodbye triple points! You can check the fine print here for yourself. Make sure you scroll to the bottom of the page past the FAQ’s.

This is another timely reminder to wear your seatbelt when seated. Holding you close to your seat will protect you from the sort of injuries sustained on this flight, when unsecured passengers flew to the ceiling of the aircraft, and then came crashing down once the ‘drop’ ceased.

The hope will be that this is an anomaly – a ‘freak accident’ in casual parlance. If it is a systemic error either mechanical or electronic, then this is a larger concern for the airlines that fly Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft. Let’s hope it isn’t. If it is, it will pile on the woes to Boeing’s existing stack.

Remembering that you can cancel and rebook any fares through to the end of February 2022, this offer is worth booking some speculative travel.

I usually value status credits over points, but triple points is a good deal. Anyway, if a good bonus status credits deal comes up – I can always cancel my triple points booking and rebook using the credit to gain the status deal. Sorry guys, you can’t combine deals.

Qantas didn’t come down in the last shower, so don’t expect this triple points deal to be giving you the best fare prices (I haven’t checked this), and the same applies to those double status points offers if they return. I have no inside knowledge, but a triple points offer often comes just before a double status credits offer. Just sayin’.
