SINGAPORE AIRLINES: Add two flights per week to Cairns–Singapore route. Makes five flights per week

Starting immediately, Singapore Airlines is upping its flights per week out of Cairns from thee to five flights per week. You will fly on a Boeing 737 MAX jet, that has 10 Business Class seats that turn into full flat 1.93m beds. You can enjoy this 7 hour flight in two of those ‘throne’ seats in Business Class.

  • SQ203 leaves Singapore at 8:40 am and arrives in Cairns at 5:20 pm

Facilities on the B737 MAX jets

You’ll get recently introduced free wifi in whatever cabin you choose to fly in along with AC and USB ports and 16″ HD video screens according to the story in ET.

In Singapore you will have access to T3’s SilverKris Business Class lounge, or KrisFlyer Gold lounge for Gold Star Alliance flyers travelling in either Premium or Economy Class. It’s located on the upper level. In Cairns, there is no Star Alliance aligned lounge for Business Class passengers. In fact the only international lounge the Airport has, the Cairns Reef Lounge is currently closed. Here’s what the Singapore Airlines website advises passengers:

Price

In July, if you select your dates carefully there are prices for Economy tickets of around AU$2,750 in Economy. Think over AU$6,000 for Business Class around the same time. And Google is showing a lot of ‘prices unknown’ after that. Searching for best times to fly on Singapore Airlines, you can get economy fares for less than AU$1,000 in 2024.

2PAXfly Takeout

Singapore Airlines is increasing its presence in Australia, having recently added another daily A380 flight to Sydney. It is also swapping a B777 aircraft for an A380 on the SQ228 and 237 flights servicing Melbourne through to the end of October 2023.

I’m not sure I would want to do 7 hours in a 737 MAX even in Business Class, even in a ‘Throne’ seat. Would much prefer the A380, although some I know aren’t too happy about the new Business Class seats.
