AIR NEW ZEALAND: No Jab – No Fly

AIR NEW ZEALAND: No Jab – No Fly

From 1 February 2022, all Air New Zealand passengers travelling on its international network will need to be fully vaccinated. These requirements will apply to all passengers over 18 on an Air New Zealand aircraft. Any unvaccinated traveller will have to present proof that vaccination was not a ‘viable option for them’ for medical reasons.

“It’s not just customers who will be required to be vaccinated – it’s everyone on board an Air New Zealand aircraft travelling internationally, adding to the health and safety measures we already have in place. Another tool in our toolbox.

“As with anything, there will be some that disagree. However, we know this is the right thing to do to protect our people, our customers and the wider New Zealand community. We’ll spend the next few months making sure we get this right, ensuring it works as smoothly as possible for our customers. This also gives anyone wanting to travel from next year plenty of time to get their vaccination.Air New Zealand’s Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran.

IATA Travel Pass

AIR NZ will be using Timatic, the IATA Travel Pass which will check flyers’ health information against flight details confirming hey meet entry requirements for that particular destination,.

The app uses decentralized technology, so there is no central database holding passenger data. Users are in control of their data and can determine who they share data with and how long it is held.

This is another timely reminder to wear your seatbelt when seated. Holding you close to your seat will protect you from the sort of injuries sustained on this flight, when unsecured passengers flew to the ceiling of the aircraft, and then came crashing down once the ‘drop’ ceased.

The hope will be that this is an anomaly – a ‘freak accident’ in casual parlance. If it is a systemic error either mechanical or electronic, then this is a larger concern for the airlines that fly Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft. Let’s hope it isn’t. If it is, it will pile on the woes to Boeing’s existing stack.

Unfortunately, this comes all too late for my booked and now cancelled trip to New Zealand in December.

For those of you who are still unvaccinated, this is the way of the world people. For the sake of you your loved ones and the rest of the community – get vaccinated.
