COVID-19: South Australia’s reopening plan

COVID-19: South Australia’s reopening plan

Most of you will already know that I have substantial family and friends in Adelaide in the state of South Australia – also where I was born. After spending a couple of years visiting Adelaide for work and family roughly once a month, I have had a series of lockdown times where I haven’t been able to visit. The last time I was there is nearly 6 months ago in early June for the Cabaret Festival.

Yesterday, South Australian Premier Steven Marshall committed to opening borders on 23 November when it is expected that 80% of South Australians 16+ will be double vaccinated.

The one caveat is that the Local Government Area that you come from in ‘red’ states – that’s New South Wales and Victoria at the moment ALSO have to be over 80% vaccinated. Looks like that won’t be a problem for me by the time 23 November rolls around.

I’m planning on being in Adelaide for Christmas, but I might try and sneak in a quick couple of nights visit before then, carefully chosen in between my University assignment deadlines!

This is another timely reminder to wear your seatbelt when seated. Holding you close to your seat will protect you from the sort of injuries sustained on this flight, when unsecured passengers flew to the ceiling of the aircraft, and then came crashing down once the ‘drop’ ceased.

The hope will be that this is an anomaly – a ‘freak accident’ in casual parlance. If it is a systemic error either mechanical or electronic, then this is a larger concern for the airlines that fly Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft. Let’s hope it isn’t. If it is, it will pile on the woes to Boeing’s existing stack.

I’ll be interested to see how service has changed on domestic airlines, especially in Business post lockdown. Adelaide also has a new hotel – the Sofitel that I would like to try out.

Oh, the sacrifices I make for you dear readers!
