YULARA: Kata Juta and Uluru, never disappoints

I’ve just spent 3 nights at Sails in the Desert at Yulara and completed the base walk around Uluru and the Valley of the Winds circuit at Kata Juta. Wonderful. Amazing.
That picture of Uluru above is taken at sunset. I haven’t included any shots of Kata Juta, which is perhaps more spectacular, and virtually all of the site is regarded as sacred, with the indigenous owners requesting that you don’t take images. I did take some photos in areas that were permitted, but I want to double-check them all before I publish any.
The last time I was here was back in – I think around 1990, so some 32 years ago. Walking in Kata Juta was awe-inspiring then, and it remained so yesterday.
More on our experience over the coming weeks. I just needed to mark the moment with a post.

The aviation industry has a difficult road ahead when it comes to sustainability. It’s going to require a relative revolution in technology, with ‘electric planes’ or hydrogen planes, or some form of jet engine that doesn’t require a carbon based fuel. And that is going to require the development of an alternative to jet engines probably.
It’s a big ask. It will take time to develop.
This move to home grown and manufactured SAF is a first step – maybe even a baby step in a very long road of innovation. In the long run, US$200 million won’t even touch the sides.
Expect a trip report over the next few weeks detailing stays at Sails in the Desert at Yulara and Double Tree by Hilton in Alice Springs. Any flight reports will be brief, as I have already reviewed Qantas B737 in Business Class many times. However, I will also review our scenic flight in a Cessna between Alice Springs and Yulara – amazing!
If you ever have the chance to visit this part of the world – Alice Springs, Yulara, Kata Juta and Uluru, do it. Bugger the expense.
You paint a rosy picture of Alice Springs. Did you visit any of the town camps?
The town is a nightmare with crime out of control. I know, because I lived there for many years.
Didn’t make one specific comment about Alice Springs. To be honest, the place makes me very uncomfortable, as it did the first time I visited, nearly 30 years ago. For example, the police stopped and questioned every non-white person trying to enter the supermarket bottle shop.
