QANTAS: Is there a special Platinum Frequent Flyer phone number?

QANTAS: Is there a special Platinum Frequent Flyer phone number?

I monitor a couple of social media groups for Platinum Frequent Flyers, and one of the most frequently asked questions is along the lines of:

Can you tell me what is the secret Qantas Platinum call centre number?

And the answer is NO. THERE IS NO SPECIAL PHONE NUMBER for the Qantas Platinum call centre (sorry/not sorry for shouting).

In the olden days, a long, long time ago . . .

There may have been once, but that was before the current prevalence of digital technology. I have a physical Frequent Flyer card that expired in 2020 and has two numbers printed at the top of the back of the card. They are:

  • AUSTRALIA 131211
  • WORLDWIDE +61(2) 9433 2329

I haven’t tried the ‘WORLDWIDE’ number, but the other one still works. BUT you don’t need it to contact the Premium line. You can do that from any legitimate Qantas contact number. Try 131313, its the Qantas Customer Service Australia number and is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You could also try the Frequent Flyer Service Centre on 131131

Don’t believe me, then head off to the Qantas Contacts page, and you can find the numbers for every continent.

Who you gonna call?

No longer a particular phone number will get you to the Premium contact centre. A special number won’t get you the golden fleece of speaking to the immensely competent team at the Hobart-based call centre.

What gets you recognised and access to the Hobart Call centre is your Frequent Flyer number. Yep, you know, with computers, they can instantly recognise you and your status when you enter that on your phone. They can then parse your status and the different call centres’ availability and match you up!

Simple.

In my experience, it also gets you far quicker to the front of the queue. During that hideous period when people were waiting for hours on the Qantas line, I never waited more than 20 minutes. Usually, far less.

So, it may not get you direct to the Hobart call centre, but it will get you answered quicker, and more likely to get a more competent assistant

How do you get to Hobart?

The Hobart call centre is the gold standard. They have been the best call centre for years. There is no hidden trick. You get them if they are not dealing with some other premium frequent flyer member. To improve your chances, ring at less busy times. Oops, I started a whole other controversy about when is a less busy time!

My experience is trying early – say 8.00 am or just after lunch. But ask two people, and you will get three opinions.

2PAXfly Takeout

There is no secret number, tactic or otherwise, of getting to the Qantas Premium call centre service. Just call the Qantas Customer Service number 131313 and enter your Frequent Flyer number. That tells Qantas your status, and that is what will determine where you enter the queue, and whether you get their most experienced call centre staff.

I used to think the New Zealand call centre was alright, but then they misled me about a simple joining of my husband’s booking to mine.

If you don’t get Hobart, make an excuse and call again until you do.
