FIJI AIRWAYS: Starts Nadi to Canberra direct service in July
Fiji Airways starts direct Canberra to Nadi flights from July 2023. Fiji is a popular holiday destinations, and this new service will allow Canberrans to fly directly to Fiji instead of via Sydney or Melbourne.
The new route Nadi to Canberra will run twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays from July to the end of September, and then increase to three times a week from October 2023.
Two new Airbus A350s delivered into the Fiji Airways fleet make this service possible. Not that these aircraft will be flying to Canberra. The addition of the aircraft to be assigned to other routes will allow Fiji Airways to free up a rumoured 787 MAX aircraft to service Canberra.
Our services between Nadi and Canberra will also establish a convenient onward connection to North America, other South Pacific destinations and indeed the rest of the world. Travellers can also break up a long journey with a short stay in Fiji.”Andre Viljoen, Fiji Airways Chief Executive and Managing Director
Fiji Airways celebrated the announcement with a special flight this morning, transporting the Fijian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Hon. Viliame Gavoka. Good timing, since he will be able to attend tonight’s match against the Brumbies at GIO Stadium in Canberra.
Those new A350s also provide opportunities to transfer onward to Los Angeles or San Francisco in the USA. You can also transfer to other islands in the South Pacific like Samoa, Vanuatu and Tonga, or even Tokyo or Singapore. Fiji Airways ofter has quite competitive airfares especially to North America, if you don’t mind a Fijian transfer or stopover.
Fiji is a fantastic place to holiday for Australians. With only a three or four-hour flight to get there, it’s much more convenient than jetting off to Asia. The islands offer quite a range of accommodations from the ridiculously private and expensive, to all-inclusive family and backpacker facilities.
As well, you just can’t beat the relaxed laughing personality that Fijians exhibit, as they dispense their boundless hospitality. Head there for a long weekend, or a fortnight on several islands.
‘Bulla! Welcome home!’ as the Fijian greeting goes.
