COVID-19: “If the whole country were vaccinated, you couldn’t just open the borders”

That’s the Australian Health Minister, Greg Hunt, dashing hopes that Australia’s borders will open as soon as the majority of Australians have received their first vaccine jab, as quoted in the SMH.
He just made 36,000 Australians stranded overseas very angry. And tourist operators arn’t very happy either.
Watch as Greg Hunt, or another minister or even our Prime Minister walk this back over the next few days.

‘Scotty from marketing’ – otherwise known as our Prime Minister, Scott Morrisson is very good at distraction, and democratising blame. He has already started the process by calling for twice weekly National Cabinet meetings, so he can shift decision making away from his government, and start blaming state governments – well at least that’s my speculation.
We already know that the deadline of October 2021 for everybody in Australia to have their first jab is shot to pieces with the new advice that under 50’s should not have the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The aviation industry has a difficult road ahead when it comes to sustainability. It’s going to require a relative revolution in technology, with ‘electric planes’ or hydrogen planes, or some form of jet engine that doesn’t require a carbon based fuel. And that is going to require the development of an alternative to jet engines probably.
It’s a big ask. It will take time to develop.
This move to home grown and manufactured SAF is a first step – maybe even a baby step in a very long road of innovation. In the long run, US$200 million won’t even touch the sides.
Time for Australia to have a clear timetable for re-opening the borders – even if the dates are fuzzy – we need a strategy! I’m happy with a roll-out of bubbles, and then a cautious opening. But we need a plan!
Come on Scotty!
