ONEWORLD: Oman Air joins the alliance today, 30 June 2025

In a process that started back in 2021, and has seen the airline shrink-to-profit, today, 30 June 2025, is the day that Oman Air joins the OneWorld Alliance.
It’s the second member to join this year, following Fiji Airways, which became a full member in late March.

OneWorld Alliance
This is one of the major airline alliances, which also includes SkyTeam and Star Alliance.
Other OneWorld members include: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, and SriLankan Airlines.
“We are thrilled to be able to welcome oneworld customers to the Sultanate of Oman to experience our unique culture, stunning mountain excursions, beautiful beaches, and, above all, the warm hospitality of the Omani people.”
Con Korfiatis, CEO of Oman Air

Benefits of OneWorld
The major benefit is the ability to earn and redeem frequent flyer points on Oman Airways if you are a frequent flyer member of any of the Alliance members. In addition, if you achieve top status with OneWorld, you can access premium lounges according to your alliance membership status.
Interestingly, the frequent flyer program of Oman Air, Sindbad, currently only has two loyalty levels, with Silver mapping to OneWorld ruby and Gold mapping to Sapphire. That leaves the OneWorld top tier of Emerald without a current pathway through the Sindbad loyalty program.

Oman has recognised this issue and is contemplating a third tier to map to OneWorld Emerald.
Other benefits include Business Class priority check-in, reserved seating, and standby/waitlist priority. For Sapphire and above level members, you also get access to Business Class lounges, priority boarding, an additional baggage allowance, and priority baggage handling. If you are an Emerald OneWorld status member, you also get expedited security, First Class check-in, and access to First Class lounges.
I’m going to have to test out that access to First lounges when I get to Muscat on my next Oman Air flight.

About Oman Air
Oman Air, has a hub at Muscat International Airport and serves 42 destinations across 22 countries. It’s fleet now consists of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, both the 8 and 9 variant. Oman Air is eliminating First Class, but now offers those cabins as an upgrade to Business Class passengers. The remainder of its fleet are Boeing 737s in a two class arrangement.
In my esperience, Oman Air provides great hospitality in the air, and a great lounge experience in Muscat.
It’s APEX suites in Business Class on the Dreamliners is hard to beat for comfort, space, direct aisle access and privacy.

For me as a Qantas Platinum frequent flyer, Oman joining OneWorld is a great innovation. I will now be able to redeem Qantas points for Oman Air flights.
Oman Air, currently doesn’t fly to Australia. Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are as far south as they fly. Fortunately, Qantas flies from Australia to these destinations. Now, Oman Air has been upgraded from a Qantas partner to a OneWorld member, transfers and fares combining both airlines should be more available whether for purchase or for redemptions. Thats a very positive development.
