VIRGIN AUSTRALIA: Gold and Platinum Status Match promotion – first 3,000 applicants from 21 to 24 May

Virgin Australa is offering to match your Qantas status at either Gold or Platinum level will Virgin Australia’s Veleocity Rewards program. But you need to move real fast, because only the first 3,000 applicants between now and 24 May will get a look in. If successful, you will get three months of what Virgin calls – Discover Gold status match for three months. And you can parley that up to Platinum and 12 months.

What you need to do

There are two steps to this status match promotion.

  1. You need to be a member or join the Velocity Rewards program: https://join.velocityfrequentflyer.com
  2. You need to provide the following information to Virgin by emailing to info@velocityfrequentflyer.com
    • Your Velocity membership number
    • Your full name
    • An image of your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card
    • Send this information from the same email address as you use for your Velocity membership

You can read the rest of this post later – get on and do the above now!

But wait, there’s more!

The real advantage of this promotion is that if you are successful you can ark this up to a full 12 months of membership by earning status credits during that three months of Discover Gold. How much you need to earn depends on the status you want to achieve:

  • Gold Status for 12 months requires you earn 80 Status credits
  • Platinum Status for 12 months requires that you earn 200 Status credits

But remember, you need to earn those status credits within the three months from your successful application.

Why would you do this status match?

Well, for a start you get lounge access in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth, plus:

  • Access to Virgin Australia domestic lounges with up to one eligible guest
  • Access to partner airline lounges, subject to eligibility and fare class
  • Priority check-in and screening at major domestic airports
  • Additional complimentary baggage (not with Lite fares);
  • Preferential seating
  • Access to ‘Fly ahead’ (on earlier flights on the same date where available and subject to fare class)

The fine print

Well of course there is a bit of that, besides the limit to the first 3,000 successful applicants. Best head over to this switcheroo page for that, or the media release. Just don’t use the link in the media release, because it doesn’t work.

2PAXfly Takeout

This is a very reasonable status match offer, although it will require a minimum of a couple of flights to earn those status points.

Previous status match offers, if I remember correctly have only required you to take some flights to convert that three months into 12.

I’m going to have to look at my travel plans over the next 3 months to see if I can easily get those credits to convert mine into 12 months. That’s presuming my application is successful!
