QANTAS: Sydney to Broken Hill route launched
Starting on 8 April, 2022, Qantas launches 2 x weekly return flights Sydney – Broken Hill using its 50 seat Bombardier Q300 turboprop aircraft – usually known as a Dash 8. If you have taken a flight to Canberra from Sydney, and not been on a Boeing 717, then it’s the Dash 8 you were probably on. Not my favourite aircraft.
The flights will operate Mondays and Fridays, so Sydneysiders could spend a long weekend in the inland mining and desert community.
A weekend is a good amount of time to see the town and its interesting surroundings. Look over at the NSW Tourism website to help plan your holiday.
SALE!
Until 21 February, QantasLink is offering a one-way segment on the route for AU$189 instead of the usual minimum price of AU$289. That sale price will save you AU$200 on the round trip. Not to be snorted at.

This is another timely reminder to wear your seatbelt when seated. Holding you close to your seat will protect you from the sort of injuries sustained on this flight, when unsecured passengers flew to the ceiling of the aircraft, and then came crashing down once the ‘drop’ ceased.
The hope will be that this is an anomaly – a ‘freak accident’ in casual parlance. If it is a systemic error either mechanical or electronic, then this is a larger concern for the airlines that fly Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft. Let’s hope it isn’t. If it is, it will pile on the woes to Boeing’s existing stack.
With the recent rains around central Australia, you may want to seek advice on when to travel, because the wildflower display – probably in Spring this year will be spectacular. Around Broken Hill was where I saw my first Sturt’s Desert Pea. It’s truly spectacular, especially when you see the saltbush green runners against the red earth, topped with those crimson and black flowers.
Between Canberra and Sydney Qantas use the B717 not the B737. I’ve flown this route many times. Business class on the B717 is very enjoyable.
I read your comment and was convinced you were wrong, since I too used to travel that route regularly. However, I cannot find any evidence to support my assertion, and plenty to support yours, so I will alter the post accordingly. Thanks for the correction.
