WEEKLY REVIEW: Sunday 8 March, 2026 — International Women’s Day

I’m in Adelaide for the annual Adelaide Arts Festival, catching up with friends, and sucking up the cultural events.

Today is International Women’s Day. To celebrate, Qantas have more than 2,500 customers flying on Jetstar and Qantas flights operated by all-female crews. Virgin Australia is celebrating with the Future Aviators initiative, annually aligned with International Women’s Day. The program aims to encourage more girls to pursue careers in aviation, particularly in engineering and flight operations, where women remain underrepresented.

I’m here for a few days sampling some of the theatre and music delights, catching up with family and friends, and visiting some old favourite haunts. That includes the Museum of Botanic Economy in the Botanic Gardens. It’s a place I have loved since my University days.

What happened last week?

Huge and disruptive week for passengers, airlines and airports with the attacks by the USA and Israel on Iran, and the consequent retaliations.

I’ve written a couple of posts on what to do amid these disruptions if you are affected. Although the troubles are not over yet, some flights are now leaving the Middle East, which is good news for stranded passengers..

I have also continued the New Routes series. Number five in the series covers the proposed new A350 cabins on Singapore Airlines.
