NEW ROUTES 2026 #5: Singapore Airlines with new A350 business class with doors — late 2026
Series: New Routes from Australia 2026

After years of speculation, Singapore Airlines is refreshing its long-haul Airbus A350 business class with privacy doors. The rollout begins in the first half of 2026, with retrofits phased across selected long-haul A350 aircraft. When do we see these refreshed cabins in Australia?

Background

I’m doing a series of posts on new routes in and out of Australia. Some are actually new routes, and some are new in the sense of having new aircraft, updated interiors, or other innovations. Looks like there will be nine posts in the series. I’ve already covered, and you can read about Turkish Airlines’ soon-to-be nonstop flights between Australia and Europe and Cathay Pacific’s revived route between Adelaide and Hong Kong. You can also read about Korean Air’s new Business Class Suites 2.0 coming to Sydney.

A350 business class with doors are coming

Singapore Airlines operates A350 aircraft on multiple Australian routes to five of its capital cities. Flights include:

  • Sydney (SQ231/232)
  • Melbourne (SQ207/208, selected services)
  • Brisbane (SQ235/236, selected services)
  • Adelaide (seasonal A350 deployments)
  • Perth (A350 on select rotations)

Although the rollout of the retrofitted aircraft will commence in the first half of 2026, the updated A350s are not expected to begin appearing on Australia–Singapore routes until late in 2026. These new cabins will not feature consistently on most Australian routes until early 2027.

The priority for the retrofitted A350s is expected to follow the following priorities. First up is Europe–Singapore trunk routes, then ultra-long-haul services, and finally, premium-heavy markets

Australia falls into the premium heavy market category, with mostly year-round load factors. But that doesn’t seem to put us at the head of the pack, yet.

As always with fleet rollouts, inconsistency and aircraft swaps are possible, if not almost certain. This means that checking the seat map for you flight is fundamental.

What’s changing in the cabin?

Singapore Airlines’ existing 2013-era A350 business seat isn’t bad; it’s just been overtaken by newer designs from Middle Eastern and European rivals, with the flavour of the decade for Business Class — doors. Remember when it was beds, and then just direct aisle access?

From what we know the update focuses on three major improvements:

Privacy doors

Fully enclosed business suites, including doors, bring the A350 into line with the airline’s newer Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 products.

Easier bed conversion

The current seat requires a flip-over mechanism to form the bed. The new design simplifies this, making overnight transitions smoother.

Improved sleeping comfort

Expect a more intuitive recline, improved cushioning, and refinements aimed at long-haul rest. Singapore Airlines has historically avoided incremental tweaks, preferring full generational upgrades. This follows that principle.

Rollout

Not every A350 will be updated immediately. There will be the usual roll-out, with the long-haul fleet being first off the rank. If you want to make sure you get the new suite, then check the aircraft type (A350), look on the seat map for doors, and keep an eye on your booking in case of aircraft swaps.

Other than ‘from 2026’, we have no definite news on the rollout timing for Australia. Sister blog, OMAAT speculates about the retrofitted A350-900s without First Class:

  • It seems highly likely that Sydney (SYD) will be the first destination, simply because it’s an existing A350 destination, it’s one of the first destinations to which Singapore Airlines has flown all of its new products, and a single plane can operate a roundtrip daily frequency
  • Interestingly, as of July 2026, Singapore Airlines has scheduled an Airbus A350 onto the London (LHR) route for the first time in years, as that’s usually a route where all flights have first class; so it seems highly likely that this will have the new cabin products

It’s all speculation anyway, however well informed.

2PAXfly Takeout

Singapore Airlines built its reputation on setting the benchmark on aircraft, cabins and service. Although it still leads on service, and First Class suites, others have surpassed it in Business Class cabin hardware. These new cabins should put them back towards the front. and back into competitive territory.

For Australian travellers, the sweet spot will likely be late 2026 onward, once the refreshed jets begin cycling onto Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane rotations.
