MALAYSIA AIRLINES: New A330neo Business Class on three daily Kuala Lumpur to Sydney flights

Malaysia Airlines has announced an upgrade for its Sydney route to begin in October 2025. All of its three daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Sydney will be operated by the airline’s brand-new A330-900neo fleet, each featuring a reverse-herringbone Business Class cabin with fully enclosed suites.

I celebrate this news. However, having just spent eight-plus hours on a Thai Airways A350 with the previous version of these suite-style seats (Collins Aerospace Super Diamond), I have some reservations.

The Collins Aerospace Elevation Suite is a development of the Super Diamond, so let’s hope that it eliminates some of the issues I found with that version of the seat on Thai Airways. My issues are with the manipulation of the seat, which I found not quite ergonomic, at least for my body. I also found the foot well way too confining. The other space, when sleeping, especially on your side with knees bent, was also a bit uncomfortable.

New daily service

Malaysia is introducing a third daily service, launching on August 30 (MH 251/MH 250). This will join the existing flights MH 122 and MH 140. By 29 November 2025, they will all be flown by the A330neos.

The Business cabins will be all-suites with doors in a reverse herringbone configuration. Expect 17.3″ 4K screens, Bluetooth audio, USB-C and wireless device charging.

Malaysian plans to operate a fleet of 10 of these aircraft by the end of 2025. It also plans to acquire an additional 10 of the same model and announced on 5 July that it was ordering an additional 20, bringing the total to 40 A330neo aircraft in its fleet.

Benefits for travellers

With my cautionary words at the beginning of this post about these seats, the new cabins offer Australian flyers access to Malaysia Airlines’ flagship business cabin.

With the same model aircraft on all flights into Sydney from KL, there is a consistency of product on the route. The new aircraft will offer a lower level of cabin noise, as well as some nice LED lighting and larger overhead luggage storage bins.

You will also get free WiFi!

Schedule

Here’s the schedule for the outgoing flights from Sydney

The additional flights are part of the transition to an open skies agreement that will boost weekly seats from 36,000 to unlimited capacity in 2026.

2PAXfly Takeout

For OneWorld members and other travellers between Sydney and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Airlines’ decision to operate all three daily flights with the A330neo Business Class delivers a consistent premium business cabin. It will make your decision about whether to fly early, mid-morning, or in the early afternoon easier.

Although I have not flown on these specific services with the new aircraft, I have travelled with Malaysia Airlines several times to their Kuala Lumpur hub and beyond. They run solid lounges in KL, and onward services to Europe are also comfortable, although not with these leading business products. Certainly worth considering if you are travelling long haul beyond, or just heading to Malaysia.
