Hello travellers,
Qantas, the good, the bad, and then Jetstar Strikes
This week saw the beginning of strikes by Jetstar pilots, baggage handlers and other staff, disrupting flights and passengers over this last weekend. More sanctioned strikes and work-to-rule disruptions are scheduled for the coming week.
Gareth Evans, Jetstar CEO made the usual PR claims that they were doing everything possible to not disrupt patrons (bar actually coming to an agreement with their workers) Meanwhile, Jetstar staff had Worksafe NSW adding weight to their claims that staffing levels were inadequate. Presumably, like where they will end up in their industrial agreement, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
To cap things off the week, Qantas had some hydraulic problems on a flight to Perth, which was turned back to Sydney. Once landed, the cabin started filling with hydraulic fluid mist, and the captain ordered an evacuation, complete with escape slide deployment. More exciting than dangerous. Mind you a few scrapes and minor injuries were gained on exit. I wonder if the luggage was left behind per evacuation instructions?
