Moss, in a terrarium!

Hello travellers,

Self-isolation - you mean you haven't got a desktop moss terrarium?

I've been in self-isolation for a few weeks now.

I have found two things (besides video streaming services) that are saving my sanity. One is online-shopping, and the other is having a dedicated office. So far, I have purchased this little terrarium from Botanica Boutique, and it is adding a bit of life to my desk. I have also purchased something nerdy and avgeeky, which you will be introduced to later.

What happened last week?

I think Australian airline loyalty programs have been playing silly buggers with the very customers they want to keep loyal. They have been restricting what and how many things you can redeem in their online shops, and Virgin have even stopped you moving points over to Singapore Airlines for the moment.

I know airlines are doing it tough, but really, they shouldn't be pissing off their customers. It's those very customers they are going to really need to stay loyal when this pandemic crisis is all over.

Neither should they be putting their passengers and crew at risk of catching COVID-19.  Qantas has over 50 employees now infected from baggage handlers to flight crew, some of which have flown on domestic and international flights while infected. Why on earth did the airlines seek and the government grant an exemption from self-isolation for airline employees? Surely they realised this was not going to end well.

While Qantas claims there is no evidence passengers or crew actually caught the virus while on one of their flights, the risks are obvious. The Transport Workers Union is quite rightly on the case.

What's coming up?

Continued self-isolation, if you're sensible, and for me probably a few more online purchases. That terrazzo desktop planter bowl looks rather nice . . .

So, while I see my credit card balance hit the roof, I'll also try to catch up on some memories reviews from trips past.

I was holding on to the possibility of heading off to New York and Barbados towards the end of the year, but I reckon the chances of that happening have now dipped to under 50%.

You can catch up on posts from last week below. Until next week . . .

Happy (fantasy)Travels,

Stephen

While my view is that as a traveller, its not your home governments responsibility to get you back to your home country. Some of these need to be resolved at a […]

Oh dear!. The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that four Qantas crew members on the repatriation flight from Sydney, who were exempt from quarantine, have since tested positive for the coronaviris. Redeeming for airline seats, or upgrading flights is recognised as the best use of your hard-earned miles and points.
