TWA Hotel opens its doors, not to universal acclaim

Where am I going this week? Perth, Western Australia

Hello travellers.
I'm off to Perth this coming week, with the help of a points upgrade from a Qantas Red e-Deal to Business. I'm looking forward to reporting on that flight, and our stay at the QT Perth.

What happened last week?

Virgin Australia offered double status credits on some flights; the TWA hotel at JFK opened its doors, and I dropped a first impressions report on the Majestic Rooftop Garden Hotel in Adelaide. I've also written an explainer on when Qantas offers domestic economy passenger free alcoholic beverages, and when they don't. Oh yes, and my Platinum status welcome pack arrived from Qantas. Did I mention that I'm now Platinum with Qantas?

Catch up on last weeks posts below. Until next week . . .

Happy Travels,
2PAXfly

First Impressions: Majestic Roof Garden Hotel, Adelaide, South Australia

By 2paxfly on May 23, 2019 08:30 am

Does the name hint at a Chinese aesthetic? Is it just me or does the ‘Majestic Roof Garden Hotel’ give off a Chinese vibe, just like the ‘Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ has a subcontinental vibe? Full on frosty white compact fluro’s are not welcoming This hotel is perfectly serviceable – not hospitable, serviceable. It has […]

Consumer Guide: Qantas – when do you get a free adult beverage on domestic flights?

By 2paxfly on May 22, 2019 08:30 am

For those of you who read the Sydney Morning Herald’s Traveller column, or the website of the same name, you will know that this policy has caused outrage – confected or otherwise – amongst correspondents. On a recent Qantas flight from Sydney to Adelaide, a slightly officious flight attendant tells me it will be $6 […]

No forms, landing cards gone – just swipe, look, walk through! As from 21 May, no immigration forms to fill in, just use your ePassport at the ePassport gates at all UK airports. No more queuing or remembering the address of where you’re staying in London, where you have just come from, and how long […]

Virgin Australia: Double Trouble on status credits

By 2paxfly on May 20, 2019 12:10 pm

Virgin Australia sent out today an email campaign advising how to earn double status credits on specific flights between now and 14 April 2020 – but you have to book in the next week – before 27 May 2019. The promotion is tailored, but not targeted. It’s open to all. The email I received specifically […]

TWA Hotel – OPEN!

By 2paxfly on May 20, 2019 09:00 am

There has been great anticipation about the opening of this hotel from both the aviation-geek community and the midcentury design crowd. This iconic terminal designed by Eero Saarinen and opened in 1962 as the TWA Flight Centre at JFK Airport was commissioned by Howard Hughes. It has as of 15 May been re-opened as part of […]
