Where were you last week? I was in Adelaide, South Australia

Hello travellers.
I spent a few days in Adelaide last week seeing my family, and catching up with my best friend who is in Adelaide on family business.

What happened last week?

See below, but Virgin Australia issued a profit warning, Qantas started 'selling its 'points plane' filght to Tokyo; an iconic Australian Prime Minister who helped shape the Australian airline industry died, and I posted some first impressions of airline lounge and hotel stays and flights to New Zealand.

Catch up on last weeks posts below. Until next week . . .

Happy Travels,

Virgin Australia: profit warning – oh dear!

By 2paxfly on May 19, 2019 08:45 am

Today, Virgin Australia’s CEO warned the market that full year earnings could be down by as much as $100 million, compared to last year. And that’s after the previous boss John Borghetti announced a first half profit to break records. Oops! Scurrah’s announcement meanwhile forecasts a $35 million loss on the full year. A weaker […]

Qantas Points Plan flights – how many points will they burn?

By 2paxfly on May 18, 2019 09:00 am

I’ve been reading quite a bit of coverage of booking for this flight, which runs between Melbourne and Tokyo on 21st October, with booking starting on 16 May 2019. Since I have commented that this is partly a ploy by Qantas and Qantas Loyalty to get a stack of Frequent Flyer Points liability off their […]

First Impressions: Qantas First Class Lounge – Auckland

By 2paxfly on May 16, 2019 08:30 am

I know the joke Australians make about New Zealand:- that it is 20 years behind the rest of the world. Well seriously, Qantas, this lounge is about 20 years behind every other Qantas lounge product. And that’s saying something (I’m talking about you domestic club lounge Sydney!) I think that image at the top of […]

First Impressions: SO/ Hotel, Auckland better than so – so.

By 2paxfly on May 15, 2019 08:30 am

As a still practising (when will I have it mastered!) graphic designer, I know that introducing unusual punctuation characters to a brand, can be a triumph, or a tragedy. Prepare yourself for the newest lifestyle brand from Sofitel. For a start they have competing slogans for this brand: LIFESTYLE HOTELS BURSTING WITH LOCAL ENERGY and […]

Virgin Australia to sell Velocity loyalty?

By 2paxfly on May 14, 2019 05:35 pm

According to the Australian Financial Review, Virgin Australia Holdings is preparing to test the appetite of the market for the spin off its reputedly 1.5 billion dollar rewards program. Velocity Frequent Flyer is owned 65% by Virgin and 35% by Affinity Equity Partners. Apparently, both sides are interested in exploring possibilities – anything from a […]

First Impressions: Qantas A330/320 – Business Suites

By 2paxfly on May 14, 2019 08:28 am

Introduction Last week, I completed two trans-Tasman flights Sydney – Auckland – Sydney in Business Class, on two different A330 configurations. (QF149 & QF140) This is my first time in these Business Suites on the flying kangaroo. Introduced in late 2014 – they are beginning to show their age – with finishes a little scratched […]

Qantas launches freebie points only flights

By 2paxfly on May 13, 2019 01:56 pm

What a nightmare – an entire plane of Qantas Frequent Flyers redeeming points. How demanding would they be? Can you imagine all those Bronze status members treating their points like they were parting with gold? Absurd or genius? I am so not sure. What I can see is the PR exercise of saying to points […]
