COVID-19: South Australia suspends international Flight arrivals

On the grounds that no one wants to repeat the experience of Victoria, it looks like South Australia is going hard and fast on restrictions as a result of their medi-hotel COVID-19 outbreak.

Restrictions and advice

South Australia will suspend all inbound international flights from tomorrow.

The following restrictions will also be reintroduced immediately:

• Work from home
• Vulnerable people to stay at home
• No unnecessary travel
• Masks and socially distancing

From midnight tonight (Monday 16 November) and for the next two weeks:

• Gyms, recreation centres, trampoline, play cafes shut
• Community sport fixtures indoor and outdoor cancelled. Outdoor activities like bootcamps can continues
• Funeral capped at 50 people, churches at 100 people or one person per four square metres
• All guests at weddings to be registered
• Private gatherings of licensed venues capped at 50 four square metre rule applies
• Hospitality, pubs, clubs and restaurants capped at 100 per venue metre rule applies no stand-up consumption
• Maximum booking of 10 in pubs, clubs and restaurants
• Private residence limited to 10 people per residence
• Masks mandatory for personal care services – nail salons, tattoos and hairdressers
• Venues, theatres and cinemas restricted to one person per 4 sqm
• Aged care facilities maximum of two visitors a day

This is another timely reminder to wear your seatbelt when seated. Holding you close to your seat will protect you from the sort of injuries sustained on this flight, when unsecured passengers flew to the ceiling of the aircraft, and then came crashing down once the ‘drop’ ceased.

The hope will be that this is an anomaly – a ‘freak accident’ in casual parlance. If it is a systemic error either mechanical or electronic, then this is a larger concern for the airlines that fly Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft. Let’s hope it isn’t. If it is, it will pile on the woes to Boeing’s existing stack.

This is not good news, but better to go hard and fast now, so that restrictions might be lifted by Christmas to allow family travel (OK, that’s called ‘self interest’), than to go half assed in a weeks time – like Boris Johnson did in Brietain.
