COVID-19: South Australia opens borders with N.T. and W.A.

South Australia will open its borders with Western Australia and The Northern Territory from midnight tonight, Tuesday 16 June. It will also allow travellers from Tasmania to enter the state.

SA Premier Steven Marshall announced the border openings today, which means travellers entering the state from the areas named above won’t be required to go into quarantine for 14 days on arrival.

Mr Marshall said a decision about travellers coming from Queensland will be made later this week.

So that means that only those who arrive from New South Wales and Victoria are still precluded, and will still have to head for quarantine for 14 days on entry to the state.

The border openings apply to those reaching the state on any form of transport including by road, or airline.

This is another timely reminder to wear your seatbelt when seated. Holding you close to your seat will protect you from the sort of injuries sustained on this flight, when unsecured passengers flew to the ceiling of the aircraft, and then came crashing down once the ‘drop’ ceased.

The hope will be that this is an anomaly – a ‘freak accident’ in casual parlance. If it is a systemic error either mechanical or electronic, then this is a larger concern for the airlines that fly Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft. Let’s hope it isn’t. If it is, it will pile on the woes to Boeing’s existing stack.

That still means I won’t be allowed into South Australia from New South Wales without a quarantine stay until 20 June as previously announced.
