Virgin Australia: Catering cutbacks, COVID-19 related
As well as Qantas cutting back catering, Australia’s other domestic carrier, Virgin Australia has also downgraded its in-flight meals.

In Economy
Well – you get nothing, (other than complimentary water in those cups, that always spill when you open them) so its a bit ‘back to the future’, like when Virgin Australia used to be Virgin Blue. Nothing complimentary, but you can use the ‘buy on board’ menu which makes this sound like a budget cut thing, rather than a health-related COVID-19 thing.
In Business
Unlike with Qantas where we don’t know what you can and can’t get in Business Class, on Virgin Australia, you can still get some Luke Mangen into you. However, you can’t top-up for free on the ‘buy on board’ menu.

I have a great deal of sympathy for airlines during the COVID-19 crisis, particularly for front line staff providing service to customers. Having said that, I feel that these catering cuts are more about saving money than customer and crew health.
So with closed clubs, no catering in Economy, and the sit-down parts of cafe’s closed in airports, I think its BYO, unless you’re in business.
