Virgin Australia: Double Trouble on status credits
Virgin Australia sent out today an email campaign advising how to earn double status credits on specific flights between now and 14 April 2020 – but you have to book in the next week – before 27 May 2019.
The promotion is tailored, but not targeted. It’s open to all. The email I received specifically outlines the benefits of gaining Silver Status – which would be the next status band up for me.

Steps to take advantage
First, you need to activate the offer by following this link – or the one in the email you receive.
Then you need to book an eligible flight before 27 May 2019. And then you need to make that flight operate between today (20 May 2019) and 14 April 2020 – so you have 11 months to choose dates from.
What flights are elibible?
Well to quote the activation page:
An Eligible Flight is any Virgin Australia marketed and operated flight and fare class for travel between 20 May 2019 and 14 April 2020 (inclusive) that normally earns Status Credits. See here (https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/the-basics/status/earn-tables) for further details.

How many points do you need for each status level?
Here is a quick table to help you:

You may also want to include in your planning and calculations what benefits you get at each level
Silver gives you a 50% increase in points earn, and a couple of invitations to a domestic lounge
Gold gives you a years entrance into the lounge and partner lounges, and ability to change to an earlier flight without charge – amongst other things.
Platinum gets you 4 complimentary fare upgrades (Freedom fare to Business Class on Domestic, Trans Tasman or International Short Haul flights). Lounge access for you and three guests, and two children up to 12 years.

How many Status Credits can you earn for a trip?
Have a look at the Status Credits earnings tables. They also have a miles calculator for working out distance between origin and destination, but not a nifty status and points calculator like Qantas does. You will have to use your fingers to work it out!

If you are a Virgin fanboy (or girl) then this is a great way to fast-track your status. If you are a regular flyer, then the status benefits will be appreciated, so if you can bring your travel booking forward, I would definitely get it done in the next week to take advantage of this Double Status promotion.
