Bangkok Airways 707 – Bangkok to Yangon – Economy

New Planes, good service

After a little sleep in, and a good breakfast, we caught the shuttle (no more dark corridors for us) back to Suvarnabhumi, to catch our PG707 flight on Bangkok Airways at 1:45 pm.

Check-in and boarding were pretty seamless – and it felt like a domestic flight in what looked like a pretty new A319.

We were heading to Yangon near the beginning of the Thingyan (New Year Water Festival), which might explain why the flight was less than half full.

You can see that the first 6 rows were empty, including the first three rows which they use as ‘business class’ – like intra-Europe airlines do by blocking off the middle seat – see below.

For an under 1.5 hour flight, not really worth the expense. It looked like everyone else was of the same opinion.

Staff were young and attentive. Probably easy to do when the plane is less than half full. Our flight was uneventful, with a snack/sandwich of mystery meat being supplied. We arrived on time at Yangon’s Mingaladon Airport at 2:35 pm (allowing for a half hour time change).

We had already obtained our Visa online, so were through immigration pretty quickly. Next, pick our bags up from the luggage belt . . .

. . . and then look for a bank or money changer to get some Burmese Kyat (although you can still use USA currency, as long as it is in mint condition).

Verdict

Bangkok Airways is a good solid regional airline, with newish A319-100’s and ATR’s. Staff seem young, immaculate and efficient. I’d definitely fly them again.
