Sydney 1, Melbourne 2

Unfortunately the ‘1’ doesn’t mean first place.

While Sydney cannot decide whether it wants a 2nd airport or not, not to mention where it will be, Melbourne has gone ahead and named Avalon as its 2nd international airport.

When will a NSW state government realise that infrastructure means more than roads for trucks and cars!

Ben Sandilands does a nice piece over at Plane Talking and Australian Business Traveller points out that at 55km’s out of Melbourne a fast rail link has been promised, but only ‘planning’ funding of 3 million has so far been committed by the Victorian government.

Although the federal government gets to change the designation from domestic to international, I suppose the Victorian government still has the opportunity to stuff it up a-la-NSW by being indecisive on infrastructure
